Why The Sublime World Was Created

There are places we travel to and things that we see that sometimes cannot be forgotten. Visual experiences at times evoke an awareness of the subtle threshold that exists between the ordinary - and the extraordinary.

The Sublime World was created to honor this exceptional sense of wonder.
The Sublime World is created to be a visual sanctuary. We hope that what you see triggers all the senses, through your imagination. We offer an evolving collection of original photography. Art, isolating moments that inspire tales of storied places, forgotten times and haunting beauty - waiting to be newly seen and uniquely experienced.

Why "Sublime?" Through our eyes, the sublime is gentle in character and intense in feeling. It is not loud, obvious or easy to find. Like a whisper in a crowd. The hush of snowfall. Or the way the light falls across a forest. The Sublime World exists to honor this personal sense of wonder.

The Sublime World was born from a shared awareness of the subtle but essential threshold separating the ordinary and the extraordinary. Each photograph we offer is a key to unlocking serenity and specialness within your home and personal spaces.

Please spend some time engaging with what we have captured and curated. The Sublime World is your private portal to engage with feelings of imagination and adventure - where everything you see is presented to inspire and soothe the soul.

Ideally, you will experience something while you are here and afterwards, too. Our goal is to create positive, memorable feelings that ignite your imagination.

Welcome to The Sublime World.

Carrie King

Founder
Born in a suburb north of Chicago within the heart of the American Midwest, Carrie is a visual storyteller driven by instinct to take intelligent risks. Her work is rooted in curiosity, intuition and a passionate refusal to be ordinary. She studied photography and film as an undergraduate at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and more recently earned her Masters degree in Liberal Arts from The Johns Hopkins University, where she studied philosophy, digital media and physics. Carrie enjoyed a successful career as a creative executive for broadcast TV stations and cable networks across the U.S..  Miss King is the recipient of numerous Emmy, National and International Awards for creative excellence.

While describing her idea to launch The Sublime World with Craig, Carrie details some of her motivating factors:

"There is an ephemeral creative space that exists somewhere between the periphery of my vision and the instincts guided by the often imperceptible whispers of the soul.

This is the place from which my work originates. There are creative forces that engage to guide the shots I take.

Since early childhood, I've always been acutely aware of and attracted to that flash you see from the corner of your eye. That cinematic moment you stumble upon in complete wonderment and awe. That fleeting split-second of something that compels you to stop,  document and record.

I shoot moments in time that are etched into who I am both as a human being and as an artist. Photography has always allowed me to transcend the need for words - and exist freely as a visual storyteller."

Craig was born in London during the 1960's to an Italian mother who was educated in England and France, and an American father who studied international relations. These were influences that Craig would not be comfortable pursuing a normal path in life. A graduate of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, Craig spent his entire career in Advertising working at major agencies in London and across the U.S. as Chief Strategist on a variety of well- known boutique and global brands.

After retiring, Craig moved to Italy where he and his posse of rescued dogs lived in a villa overlooking the Adriatic Sea. After that he moved full-circle back to St. Andrews, where he had done his university studies 30-odd years before. Craig and his dogs currently live in a centuries-old stone barn conversion in the area.

A window into Craig's connection with the idea for The Sublime World is his love for exploring that which is quietly different, unexpected and special. For instance, instead of attending his university graduation, Craig graduated 'in absentia,' spending the money his parents would have spent on travel to the ceremony, to stay with a French professor friend in Paris. For three weeks he explored the city on foot, including spending over two hours one day, saving bees in distress in the great fountain at the Palace of Versailles. His passion for exploring the simple and the grand, but always in "good taste" he stresses, is where he captures many of the photos we feature.

Craig hopes The Sublime World can bring to those who engage with it, the same kind of small but exquisite joy he experiences - whether hiking in the Sud Tirol amongst old church ruins, attending a chamber orchestra performance at a church in Prague during the winter, or traveling anywhere else his wanderlust leads him.
